The Winter Wonderland Canteen!!! By: Danielle C. and Maria I.
Many of you at AWMS got ready to dance, run, eat, slide and have fun on Friday night! The Annual Winter Canteen was back and if this was your first time, you were in for tons of fun. It was similar to the
Fall Canteen that passed a few months back, with its games, food, music, etc, but it was a little different from it's predecessor.
For starters, you DID NOT have to wear a costume because it's a Winter Canteen, but I'm not judging anyone who might have come as a snow fairy. Of course, the music was a bit different. You probably heard some holiday themed music, along with a lot of regular and popular music. One highlight was a very fun, teacher-led dance of the “Cupid Shuffle.”
The decorations changed based on the time of year: pumpkins were out and snowflakes were in! If you decided to get your picture taken with friends just like at the Fall Canteen, you noticed that the background and the photo's frame changed. The lines for photos were still be tremendously long, but many students got there early to take their pictures right away! We've got a few more tips on the website for you 6th graders who didn't go, but will be interested in it next year:
1. Don't run on the school's sidewalks when you arrive, it will be very slippery because it
has just snowed and the ice will most likely not melt for a while.
2. NO snow angels and NO snowballs!
3. Don't overload on the food as soon as you get here, you will feel queasy when you start dancing or
playing.
4. Don't wear anything too fancy, you are going to be moving around alot (I hope).
5. Don't wear something to casual, you will be taking pictures and you want to look good.
6. I recommend not to wear a heavy jacket because you might not find in the pile of a bunch of coats, so
wear a light jacket that will still keep you warm.
7. If you see a police officer and car, no, he is not here to arrest someone, just to keep the party safe.
8. Check out the classrooms! Don't spend all your times on the dancefloor. There are some pretty cool
stuff in there.
9. The food room can be DANGEROUS! Watch where you put your food down at try to make it to the
table.
10. Be polite to the chaperones. They don't have to be there but they chose to be there for you guys!

AWMS Winter Concert
“Jingle Bell, Jingle Bell, Jingle Bell ROCK,” is exactly what the chorus and band of AWMS did on December 21 for the annual Holiday concert. They “rocked the night away” as students and teachers of Anthony Wayne gathered around to watch the school's talent perform before school let out. The captivating show was filled with “merry” and was in fact a huge success! Listen below to some sound clips to recap the event.
Our first clip includes a peppy rendition of "Jingle Bells" performed by the band.
Next, you will hear the impressive and soothing harmonies of our chorus. It sounds so good, you'll wish there was more...
You can even hear the crowd's excitement as the band and chorus join forces during the finale, "We Wish You a Merry Christmas." All of the AWMS community was asked to sing along, but maybe we should save that for the professionals.
