Rainforest Bake Sale
By: Andy and Faraz
Let’s save the rainforests! On May 10, 2013, the special education students hosted a bake sale. All the money that they got for their rainforest baked goods was donated to save the rainforests on Earth. In the bake sale, they sold many different treats that each cost no more than a dollar. Some of the treats they sold were Oreos, frosted Oreos, pretzel sticks, frosted pretzel sticks, rainforest-themed cupcakes, cake-pops, cake balls, chips, and water. While everyone ate their fabulous food, they played a short video from YouTube. It was all about why we should save the rainforest and what we can do to do so. The special education students and their teachers worked hard at organizing the sale. The teachers baked the food and the children decorated it. Also, during the sale, the special education students were the cashiers. They used their math skills to calculate how much the food cost for each person, and to calculate the change that they needed to give back. In the end, the special education students donated over five hundred dollars, all from their hard work from the bake sale, to save the rainforest. Many people enjoyed this terrific treat. Here are some comments. “I liked the treats,” stated one sixth-grader. “I loved the treats, and I liked their cause!” stated another sixth-grader. They played their part, now what will you do to save our rainforests?
