Started From the Bottom Now We Here

On October 1st, the Pittsburgh Pirates played their first playoff game in 21 years. The Pirates played the Cincinnati Reds and won. An attendance of 40,487 in all black including 2,000 people watching the game in standing room only, heckled Reds pitcher Cueto chanting “Cue-to, Cue-to, Cue-to!” Marlon Byrd helped the Pirates strike with a homerun in the bottom of the second inning, and Russell Martin followed that up with hitting his first homerun to give the “Buccos” an early 2-0 lead. Later in the game, Martin hit another homerun; he is only the second catcher ever to hit two homeruns in an elimination game. The other one was the Yankees own Yogi Berra. Francisco Liriano pitched great for the Pirates, pitching 7 innings, giving up only 1 run and 4 hits. Cueto, on the other hand, only pitched 4 innings and allowed 4 runs and 7 hits. Now the Pirates will face the St. Louis Cardinals in the NLDS series.  This has been a truly magical year for the “Buccos”, their first postseason victory since October 13th, 1992.  We will see how far these “Buccos” will go.

         Have a happy “Buctober”
